The area surrounding the current Camp Richardson Resort and Marina has been in private possession since 1875 when M.C. Gardner purchased a timber holding of several thousand acres from the U.S. Government and constructed a sawmill and railroad line. He bought the property for $2.50 per acre + $1 per acre, payable over 20 years. Oh, how I wish we could purchase land at that price now.
Without taking a sail aboard the Dixie Queen, a paddlewheel boat that provides daytime and evening excursions, no vacation to Lake Tahoe would be complete. It is said that the cuisine and entertainment are the greatest you can get anyplace. One of the most well-known cruise ships in the country is the Dixie Queen.
